Background
With campuses in both Tarboro and Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Edgecombe Community College (ECC) offers a wealth of classes and degrees to people in the eastern portion of the state. They have a diverse student body and sizable staff of teachers and support personnel.
Challenge
The college's existing web site had grown over the years and was hampered by a lack of continuity across the vast amounts of information it provided. The overall design appeared dated. The client was looking for an enhancement to the usability of the site, an increase in search engine rankings, and an overall high tech look and feel. The school collected bids from Kaufman Web Design™ and two other design companies.
We won the contract and began the process of redesigning the web site from the ground up.
Solution
A project team was assigned to the ECC web site and began work on a series of potential designs. The client then chose their favorite and the serious work of organizing the vast amount of information began. Phrases that the school wanted to rank high in were chosen early in the project cycle. Then content pages used these phrases frequently which would result in increased rankings for those web pages. After the content organization phase was completed, each of the 180 plus pages was created and a number of dynamic processes were retrofitted into the new design. Their ongoing maintenance agreement meant that the site would maintain fresh content and relevant information for both students and employees.
